Team Peyton

Holly Pilcher

Dear Friends,

The last 15 months has been a year that I could have never imagined! It has been filled with joy and sorrow. I hope you will take a few minutes and read Peyton's story, watch our video and hopefully join Team Peyton in raising money to support our local Children's Miracle Network Hospital, GHSU Children's Medical Center.

When Peyton was born on July 26, 2011, she weighed only 3 pounds 9 ounces. My tiny baby girl spent her first three and a half weeks in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Banner Good Samaritan Hospital in Phoenix, Arizona and was diagnosed as being SGA (small for gestational age). In September 2011, Peyton and I moved back to Georgia from Arizona to be with my family - knowing that I was going to need a lot of help with Peyton and her special needs.

On December 28, 2011, I felt a lump in Peyton’s right side. My dad and I (Dr. Reggie Pilcher who is Peyton's grandfather and pediatrician) took Peyton to Georgia Health Sciences Children’s Medical Center to see Dr. Robyn Hatley. My worst nightmare came true; my new precious baby girl had Hepatoblastoma, a malignant tumor that was bleeding in her liver. Peyton remained in the Children’s Medical Center for one month. Her treatment plan included six rounds of chemo with plans for surgery after round four. In April 2012, Dr. Robyn Hatley and a team of surgeons removed Peyton’s tumor. After nine LONG hours of surgery, the tumor was successfully removed, including the right lobe of her liver, with less than one millimeter of clear margin! In July 2012, Peyton underwent her first post surgery CT scan and was declared cancer free! Despite all that Peyton has gone through as a baby, she remains strong and has smiled through it all. On July 26, 2012 Peyton turned one and made her first trip to the beach to celebrate with our family!

The physicians and staff at the CMC calmed the storm and gave us love, comfort and a "home away from home" while giving my child the care and treatments she needed. I cannot even begin to imagine what we would do without them then or now.

I hope you will consider supporting my participation in the Race to 50k event. All contributions will benefit my local Children's Miracle Network Hospital, the GHSU Children's Medical Center. Any contribution will help, and all donations are tax deductible.

11/29/2012 Peyton is so precious. All the pictures I have seen of her show her beautiful smile. How she has been able to smile from everything she has had to go thru is imazing. When I found out that she had cancer I started praying for her everynight and God is so good. I pray that she will continue to be healthy.
