Fundraising Page for Emmanuel College Dance Marathon
April 13, 2013 at Emmanuel College Gymnasium
Dear Friends,
This past April I was lucky enough to be a participant in Emmanuel College’s first ever Dance Marathon. The Dance Marathon (ECDM) was a 12 hour event that started at 10:00 at night and went until 10:00 the next morning with all of the proceeds going directly to Boston Children’s Hospital. The event was kicked off by Groove Boston (a group of DJs that transformed our gymnasium into a huge dance) and throughout the night there were different theme hours (90’s, Pop, etc.) as well as relay races, bands, twister, and Zumba. While it is called a Dance Marathon, “dancers” are not required to dance all night. Instead they are required to remain on their feet all night. Dancers remain on their feet all night to stand for those who can’t; to stand for those children who are stuck in a hospital bed and cannot physically enjoy life to the capacity that they deserve. After hours and hours of dancing, ECDM ended at 10:00 in the morning with an emotional conclusion. Two Miracle families, each with a child that has spent a vast amount of time at Boston Children’s Hospital (BCH) and have gone through unbelievable procedures, came to conclude the event. When we began the Dance Marathon, we were all given a hospital bracelet and after hearing the stories of these little kids, the kids themselves cut off our hospital bracelets for us. I cannot explain to you how meaningful of an experience this was for me especially as I was spending a lot of time right down the street from BCH at Brigham and Women’s and Dana Farber with my Grammy. I got to spend 12 hours with some people that are now my best friends and I was extremely moved by all that happened at ECDM.
Lucky for me, I have now gotten even more involved. This year I am on the Executive Board for ECDM as the Entertainment Co-Coordinator. ECDM is more than just the marathon itself, there are fundraising and recruitment events and the entire Executive Board has already visited BCH and spent a couple hours there making hats with patients. But what my position means is that I’m in charge of all the fun things that will be going on at the actual event. I have a lot of ideas that I’m going to working on this year in preparation for the event once again in April. And fundraising begins now! Thank you for any help you can give!
