Pediatric Mental & Behavioral Health

In June 2018, St. Luke's Children's Center for Neurobehavioral Medicine welcome its first class of patients at the St. Luke's Children's Day Treatment Center, an intensive outpatient program for adolescents ages 12-17 with psychiatric disorders. This program is the only one of its kind in the state of Idaho. Your donation will benefit the Day Treatment Center and continue the vital and necessary work for pediatric mental and behavioral health patients across the state.
The program's approach is multi-disciplinary and evidence-based and combines individual, family, and group therapies, as well as educational programming. Youth accepted into the program start their admission with a treatment planning meeting with their family and therapist, a medication evaluation with a child psychiatrist, a meeting with our academic education specialist, and participation in group therapy and school.
As of August 2020, the Day Treatment Center has enrolled 153 patients with 115 patients successfully completing the program. The average length of stay is 26 program days for those who meet their treatment goals and the average age of participation is 15 years old. 75% of patients have successfully completed the Day Treatment program and reached their goals! Upon completion, each patient participates in a "bon voyage" ceremony to celebrate their success.
The Day Treatment Center closed along with area schools in March 2020 to protect students from the spread of COVID-19. Very quickly, the Center pivoted and launched another intensive outpatient program to meet the needs of their patients. The program offers a minimum of nine hours of therapy a week, a significant increase from the normal one to two hours available to kids not enrolled in these programs. By providing this level of therapy via Telehealth while adolescents are home, St. Luke's Children's is able to continue to treat our patients through a stressful and unsettling time.
