Hi Friends!

Every February, Mix 106.5 holds a two-day Radiothon benefiting Johns Hopkins Children’s Center—an event that is close to my heart and here is why...

When I was 5, my parents noticed some changes in my facial expressions and my energy level. The next day I couldn't stand on my own.  After rushing to Johns Hopkins Children Center, I was diagnosed with a bleed on my brain stem. I spent the next week in the PICU and during that time I had a couple of seizures that were caused by the pressure building around my brain due the the blood blocking the flow of brain fluid. So after the second seizure, my doctor, the wonderful Dr. Carson, decided it was time to remove the blood that was causing my issues. The surgery was a success and thankfully there wasn't anymore bleeding. However, even with a successful surgery, I still had some work to do. I was moved to Mt Washington Pediatric Hospital for physical therapy.  There, I learned how to walk again as I regained my balance.  I also had to learn how to use my left hand and arm. Therapy was a great success.

A year or so later I returned to JHCC to visit with a plastic surgeon to help with the right side of my face.  After, a nerve graph from my lower left leg to my face, a muscle graph from the inside of my thigh to the right side of my face I got a full smile again.

I'm 15 now, and I live my life like any other 15 year old. The doctors and nurses at JHCC saved my life and took care of me and my family. They’re just the best.

This is why Johns Hopkins Children's Center is close to my heart.

This year’s Radiothon will take place on Thursday, Feb. 24 and Friday, Feb. 25 from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. both days. During these two days, Mix 106.5 DJs will be sharing stories of our incredible patients, families and staff to raise much-needed funds for the kids at the Children’s Center.

I would appreciate any contribution you can make to this worthwhile cause—every dollar helps! Thank you––and be sure to tune in to Mix 106.5 on Feb. 24 and 25! #HopkinsKidsOnAir #Mix1065Radiothon
